Puppies found by firefighters in Kamloops reunited with owner

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) — Five puppies that firefighters believed had been abandoned on a service road near the Mabel Creek fire in Kamloops have been returned to their owner.

Lorie Chortyk with the BC SPCA says the situation seems to have been “an honest mistake.”

In an email to NEWS 1130 she says the firefighters didn’t realize that the road where they found the dogs actually went through the owner’s property.

When they couldn’t see any houses nearby, Chortyk says the crew members took the dogs, which a few days later were taken to the SCPA’s Vernon location.

Chortyk says one of their Special Const. picked up the puppies Tuesday afternoon and returned them home.

Owner Heidi Lang confirmed the Golden Retrievers have been returned to her farm in Lumby.

“The constable who took the puppies back was going to have a conversation with the owners to make sure the puppies were being well looked after,” Chortyk says.
