IHIT asking for video in connection with Surrey homicide

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Investigators are hoping you can help them solve a homicide from close to two weeks ago.

The Surrey RCMP was called to reports of a fight near the McDonalds in the area of 129 Street and 96 Avenue on Aug. 19 around 9:00 p.m.

When paramedics arrived, they found Lakhwinder Singh Bal “unresponsive in the parking lot.”

He was taken to hospital, but died of his injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in, and since taking over, is said to have received a number of tips.

IHIT is looking for anyone who may have either dash-cam footage or any other video take in the area near the scene of the investigation between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Aug. 19.

“Mr. Bal was homeless and living on the streets and died as the result of an assault,” IHIT’s Cpl. David Lee says. “There are persons who were travelling through the area who may have recordings, and we ask them to come forward.”
