Security footage of suspect in Vancouver arson

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police have released surveillance footage of a man they believe was responsible for a fire in East Vancouver that caused over $100,000 in damage.

The arson happened on Aug. 21 at about 3 p.m. The video shows the suspect walking in the east lane of Nanaimo Street at Copley Street, near E. 18th Ave.

The suspect put his hand onto a dry hedge behind a home. Moments after he walked away, the hedge was on fire.

The fire destroyed two garages with vehicles inside, a utility pole, and the hedge.

No one was hurt.

“Setting a fire, in a residential neighborhood in the height of such a dry summer, was reckless and dangerous,” said Sgt. Jason Robillard with the VPD. “We are eager to identify this suspect as soon as possible.”

The suspect is described as an Aboriginal man in his late 20s to early 30s. He has a slim build and is about 5’10” tall. He has a tattoo on the left side of his neck and may have tattoos on his arms.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call (604) 717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
