It’s the first ‘real’ commuting day of September

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Brace yourself if you’re on the road or using transit today. This is being called the first “real” day of the fall commute, with schools of all types now on their regular schedules.

Chris Bryan with TransLink says it’s a good idea to give yourself some extra time. “Everybody’s heading back to work. Everybody’s heading back to school. People are still figuring out their schedules. It tends to be very crowded on the roads, as well as on the buses.”

“You don’t want that added stress of having to arrive really close to the time you’re [supposed to] be there. It tends to make for a more pleasant experience.”

Bryan says using TransLink’s trip planner can help, too. He adds staff do their best to monitor the situation.

“We have our transit supervisors out at the bus exchanges. We have extra staff out on SkyTrain as well, just to monitor the crowds on the platforms.”

Bryan says things usually calm down later this month once people get familiar with their schedules.
