Fire at wood recycling plant in Langley still burning

CLOVERDALE (NEWS 1130) – The smell and sight of smoke continue to linger over northern Surrey and Langley as a fire smoulders at a wood recycling plant not far from the Golden Ears Bridge.

The fire at Cloverdale Fuel in Langley started late Monday night.

Township Deputy Fire Chief Russ Jenkins says they’re putting a lot of water on it, but the pile of wood is very big.

“Often times the wind comes down and pushes it inland so we’re getting some smoke being pushed back into the Township of Langley,” he says.

Jenkins says crews will likely be there for another day or two.

“It’s starting to lessen a little bit but it’s going to continue for the next little while,” he says.

A caller to the newsroom described the fire as “apocalyptic looking.”

Given to the amount of fuel, Jenkins says he doubts they’ll ever know the cause of the fire.
