Woodpile fire continues to burn in Langley

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – A fire at Cloverdale Fuel in Langley continues to send smoke into the air, two days after the blaze was first reported.

Darren Grieve flew above 102B Avenue, east of the Golden Ears Bridge in the NEWS 1130 Air Patrol Thursday afternoon. He went over the scene again Wednesday morning.

“It looks to be almost the same as it did yesterday afternoon, with the exception of the fact that we can see a lot more flames on this fire than we did yesterday,” he said.

The fire is burning in a large pile of lumber.

Township Fire Chief Russ Jenkins says the flames are higher than they were yesterday. He estimates the blaze spans about 400 by 100 feet.

“We’re still using our crews and about four different apparatus to lob water onto it. We have three machines on site, trying to break the pile apart. We’re going to be here for days. It’s a massive pile of embers.

No buildings are currently at risk.
