Vancouver police say some wigs linked to break and enter have been found

VANCOUVER – A bag of expensive wigs made from human hair has been found on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and police say the discovery is related to a recent theft of wigs meant for young cancer patients.

Vancouver police say they were called late Thursday about the bag of wigs spotted in a hotel hallway in the neighbourhood.

Const. Jason Doucette says the person who made the find immediately linked it to media coverage about the recent theft of 150 wigs from Eva and Company, the Vancouver store specializing in synthetic and human-hair wigs.

A statement from the police department says not all of the wigs stolen last Friday have been recovered,

It also doesn’t indicate if any of the 15 wigs specifically created for patients at BC Children’s Hospital, and valued at approximately $2,500 each, are among those found.

Doucette says police have seized the wigs and an investigation is continuing.

“Although we’ve recovered a portion of the wigs, the investigation remains a priority. We would like to get the remainder of the property back and make an arrest in this case,” Doucette says in the news release.

Eva and Company owner Frances Rae said Wednesday that a thief or thieves used a crowbar to break into the shop from the business next door, which is under renovation.

When they announced the burglary, police said they were looking for a man with long curly black hair, who was last seen walking away from the store carrying a large black garbage bag and wearing a denim or blue jacket.
