VPD recovers some stolen wigs that were made for kids with cancer

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Some of the wigs that were stolen from a shop in Vancouver last week have been found.

In the early hours of Sept. 7, someone broke into Eva & Co. Wigs on West Broadway and stole 150 wigs made from human hair. Many of those wigs were made for cancer patients at BC Children’s Hospital.

On Thursday evening, police received a call from someone in a hotel on the Downtown Eastside.

“Someone had located a bag, opened it up, and saw what appeared to be a bunch of wigs. Being familiar with the media attention that this break and enter had received over the last week, they gave us a call right away,” said Cst. Jason Doucette with the VPD.

“We recovered about 66, but we do know that there are more out there. We’re still looking, and we want to hold somebody accountable for this,” added Doucette.

No arrests have been made.

The owner of the store said her team has been scrambling to re-make the wigs, adding they were hoping to get them to the cancer patients for their return to school.

However, it takes a couple of months to complete a wig.

The store has been overwhelmed with support from people wishing to donate their hair.

If you are interested in donating hair to help, you can head to the company’s website to find all the details.

Investigators are still looking for witnesses and video footage that could help them find the rest of the wigs and the suspect.
