KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – B.C.’s civilian police watchdog has been called in after a man was found dead following a shooting involving Kamloops RCMP officers.
Mounties were called to a camper trailer around 4:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a suspicious and “possibly impaired” man. When officers arrived, there was a reported exchange of gun fire and the man was found dead shortly after.
No one else was hurt, police say.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has taken over, and will now be looking at whether there’s any link between police actions and the man’s death.
Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident. If you have any information, you’re asked to call the IIO at 1.855.446.8477.
The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents in BC that result in serious harm or death.
