‘It’s really, really cool’: Erickson-designed ‘Wedge House’ headlines Vancouver Modern Home Tour

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Celebrating the best in contemporary local architecture; the sixth annual Vancouver Modern Home Tour is on today.

The tour is run by the Modern Architecture and Design Society, which operates similar events in San Diego, Boulder, Silicon Valley, Washington, DC, and Houston.

“If you are simply just a lover of architecture and design and want to see some really cool houses and meet the architects and the people that had a hand in building it, and the people that live there, come on out and enjoy the day,” explains Vice President Ken Shallcross.

One of the standouts this year is a North Vancouver home designed by Arthur Erickson, known locally as the Wedge House.

“Because it looks like a little slice of pie standing up on its backside,” Shallcross says. “It’s really, really cool.”

The four other stops include a laneway house, a penthouse, and two other homes “that are modern and green-built, very sustainable and really just a perfect encapsulation of what a modern home is today.”

The tour runs until 5:00 p.m. You can find out more here.
