Police investigate suspicious car fire, reports of shots fired

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – Police are trying to get to the bottom of a pair of suspicious incidents last night.

In Maple Ridge, the RCMP was called in after a man is said to have been hurt in a possible explosion, that was triggered when he opened the door of his SUV.

“Right now we’re investigating what appears to be a suspicious vehicle fire,” explains Rdige Meadows RCMP Cpl. Amanda Harnett.

She says Mounties were called to the area of 191-B Street near Ford Road around 9:00 p.m.

“Witnesses in the area reported hearing a bang and saw some flashes around a vehicle. Fire arrived on scene, RCMP arrived on scene and did note that there was a vehicle that had been engulfed in flames.”

She says a man received “pretty significant” burns.

There’s no word on how this may have happened, and Cpl. Harnett says the man doesn’t appear to have had any “volatile reasons for trying to set this vehicle on fire,” or any reason to be targeted.

Meantime, in the Fraser Valley, police were called to reports of gunshots at a home investigators have been to before.

The house on Flagman Avenue in West Abbotsford was the scene of targeted shooting earlier this year.

Abbotsford Police say the incident doesn’t appear to be gang-related, but add a 43-year-old man is in custody and is facing firearms charges.

They are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
