Rogers Communications, UBC partner to build 5G innovation hub on campus

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A new high-tech hub for 5G innovation is coming to UBC.

It’s all part of a multi-million dollar partnership with Rogers, which will also fund 5G research in an effort to bring the best service to Canadians.

Rogers says it will 5G-ready network equipment will be on the campus early next year. The wireless technology is up to 100 times faster than the current 4G system and promises better internet on smartphones well as potential new applications.

Rogers and the university will study 5G applications that do things like monitor cars and traffic among other research interests. The partnership will last three years.

The goal is to develop smarter and safer cities.

Rogers is the parent company of NEWS 1130.
