Canucks a different team without the Sedins, with Pettersson the top prospect

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Canucks are three games into the NHL pre-season and just won their first game: a 4-3 shootout decision over the LA Kings.

But James Cybulski with Sportsnet 650 says one thing is very clear:

“We’ve learned that Elias Pettersson is a really, really good hockey player. There is some magical skill about him. There were a lot of question marks when the Canucks took him in 2017. I think we know that that looks like that might be a steal, at fifth overall.”

Pettersson is the top prospect in the organization, but after that?

“Remember how they used to label the cast of Saturday Night Live the ‘not yet ready for prime time players’? That’s probably the best way to describe the Canucks’ prospects, after Elias Pettersson, right now,” says Cybulski.

With the Sedins retired, the Canucks are now a very different squad.

“This team’s much faster without Daniel and Henrik,” explains Cybulski. “Look, there was a lot of skill that Daniel and Henrik brought. They put over 100 points up together, combined. That’s still a void to fill. But this team’s faster, a little more energetic.”
