VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s been exactly 13 years since a Vancouver woman was murdered outside her home and to this day, no one has been arrested or charged.

In the early morning hours of September 23, 2005, 31-year-old Mayvette Monzon had just returned home from work when she was shot and killed as she sat in her parked car near Granville Street and West 53rd Avenue.

“It’s 13 years ago that this happened and we still believe that there’s somebody out there that holds the key to this one, that may have information that could help us solve this,” says Sergeant Jason Robillard with the Vancouver Police Department.

“A homicide case is never closed, especially this one.”

Monzon was a well-known bartender at the time of her death, working at Fever Nightclub on Church Street in New Westminster, Cheer’s Pub on 70th Avenue in Delta, Capital Nightclub on Elmbridge Way in Richmond and Barcode on West Broadway in Vancouver.

Police have previously said Monzon knew people tied to gangs and drugs and while they’ve received anonymous information about people who may have been involved, no one has come forward with identities.

“We’re looking at every possibility, we haven’t ruled anything out yet,” says Robillard, who adds investigators are looking for that one missing piece of information that will make a break in the case.

“It’s hard to say exactly what they are but we obviously don’t have the information that we need to bring the killer or killers to justice.”

Police believe Monzon was either followed or someone waited for her outside her home the morning she was killed.

“Somebody out there knows something,” Robillard adds.

“You may not think that the information you have is important but call us and let us determine what that information is and it may be the key and you might not even know it.”
