Richmond RCMP looking for second suspect in break and enter

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Richmond RCMP have made an arrest in relation to a break and enter in Richmond but are asking for the public’s help to locate a second suspect.

The incident took place Tuesday around noon on Pleasant Street.

Police say an owner returned home after his security system was triggered. When he arrived he saw two suspects climbing out of a ground floor window and running away.

The owner ran after the suspects and gave dispatchers “critical” information about them.

The Integrated Police Dog Services was called in to help track the suspects.

One of the suspects led police on a complex chase in Vancouver, “the cat and mouse game of hide and seek came to an abrupt end at the dyke where the suspect was ultimately arrested,” read a release from police.

Officers recovered a large amount of cash, including foreign currency, and a change of clothes.

Police say the suspect, a 16-year-old from Surrey, was arrested without incident.

“Our investigators are trying to determine whether any other local break-ins can be connected to our suspect and this search will be expanded to other municipalities outside of Richmond,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang in a release. “Although he is 16 years old, we would pause to say, for all things, there are very real consequences.”

The second suspect remains at large. He is being described as a dark-skinned male, possibly in his late teens or early 20s, slim build and a short afro. He was last seen wearing a blue sweater and khaki pants.
