Five ‘irreplaceable’ guitars belonging to band 54-40 found in Surrey: NWPD

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – Just a few days after being reportedly robbed, members of west coast rock band 54-40 have been reunited with some of their instruments.

New Westminster Police say five of the vintage guitars were found after officers executed a search warrant in Surrey on Sunday. Some other electronic equipment was also found.

Two are still missing.

“The investigation is on-going, and NWPD officers continue to work toward identifying and arresting a suspect,” Sergeant Jeff Scott says. “This was a significant theft and we are hopeful that we will be able to recover the other two guitars. We will continue to follow-up with any leads as they come in.”

The guitars were apparently stolen out of a U-Haul cube van that was parked in front of the Queens Park Care Centre in New Westminster Thursday night or Friday morning.

According to police, the vintage instruments were valued at about $50,000.

“The instruments are irreplaceable and hold great value to band members beyond their monetary worth,” 54-40 said in a Facebook post on Friday.

The band had also offered up a $5,000 reward for the safe return of the equipment, or information that would have led to the safe return of the instruments.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 604-525-5411.
