Metro Vancouver water reservoirs looking ‘very good’ this time of year

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You only have to pay attention to lawn watering restrictions for a few more days if you live around Metro Vancouver.

They’re set to come to an end on Monday.

Darrell Mussatto is the head of the Metro Vancouver Regional District’s utilities committee, and says the region’s three reservoirs are looking good.

“We’re at about 51 per cent of capacity, which means we’ve used over half of the amount of water we can use — for this time of year that’s great news,” he says. “It means that people have been making changes, they’ve been reducing their consumption, and we’ve had a bit of rain to help out as well.”

While he says people have been good about changing their consumption habits, Mussatto adds everyone can do better.

“We have a little bit more room to work, we can still change our habits a bit more,” he tells NEWS 1130.

“But overall, it made for quite a successful year. Accompanied with the rainfall that we had towards the end of the summer there, it helped our reservoirs a little bit so we’re in good stead going into the fall and going into the winter.”

This year’s water restrictions began on May 1, kicking in two weeks earlier than usual in an effort to make sure the region had enough water throughout the summer.
