EDMONTON (CityNews) — Ahead of next week’s federal cannabis legalization, Mounties in Alberta are being trained in catching cannabis-impaired drivers, including the use of the Drager 5000 machine, a controversial road side test gadget used to detect pot residue from smoking.
Apart from looking for the usual signs of slurred speech and glossy eyes, officers will also employ four Drager machines.
However, that is worrisome to a criminal defence lawyer, who says the THC blood level maximums are problematic. The current maximum is 2 nanograms and serious charges can result for drivers who go over that limit.
