VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Stanley Park will be alight tonight in support of blood cancer victims and those are still battling the illness across Canada
Light the Night is an annual lantern-lit walk through Stanley Park which aims to raise awareness and money for people affected by leukemia and lymphoma, and it is The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
“The gold lantern is unfortunately for folks that we’ve lost, so it’s a memory, and the white lanterns are for survivors or patients that are currently going through treatment. The red lanterns are for supporters,” says Alicia Talarico, vice president of the organization.
“I challenge anyone to come out and say it’s not a magical event. We are looking to raise close to $6.5 million.”
So far the society has raised $4.6 million.
Five thousand are expected to participate in Vancouver, other walks are happening in Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Winnipeg.
The walk in Stanley Park is starting from Lumberman’s Arch and people can register start at 4:00 p.m.
