LIONS BAY (NEWS 1130) – There was a positive end to the search for two hikers at Cypress Provincial Park.
Two women became separated from their group on Unnecessary Mountain Trail.
Martin Colwell of Lions Bay Search and Rescue said the pair was last seen around 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. At about 9:30 p.m., the organization tweeted that they had been rescued.
Happy to report a successful rescue of the two missing hikers on the Unnecessary Mountain trail tonight.

Search crews couldn’t use their helicopter because of the dark conditions, so they had to do everything by foot.
“There was a group of four people,” said Colwell. “The two men made it down to the bottom of the trail and the last time they saw the two women were about halfway down the trail.”
The Unnecessary Mountain Trail is described as one of the steepest and most difficult trails in the area.
