DELTA (NEWS 1130) – It’s full speed ahead for a new bridge to replace the Massey Tunnel. Delta mayor-elect George Harvie is making that promise.
Harvie says he’ll make the phone calls and arrange meetings with the area’s MLAs and MPs, in an effort to get the bridge replacement for the tunnel complete.
“It has to be done as soon as possible. It must include provisions for light rail. I agree — we don’t want all the traffic heading into Vancouver and jamming up, as it is. If we get light rail at the same time — which is going to be more efficient, more effective — it’ll get people out of their cars and finally, people south of the Fraser can have a good means of transportation to get into Vancouver to their places of work.”

Harvey defeated former police chief Jim Cessford and third-place finisher Sylvia Bishop, to take over from longtime, outgoing mayor Lois Jackson.
