Ken Sim concedes to Kennedy Stewart in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The NPA’s Ken Sim is now congratulating Kennedy Stewart on becoming Vancouver’s newest mayor.

This follows a few days of Sim avoiding the concession after unofficial totals showed Stewart ahead by nearly 1,000 votes.

“I would like to congratulate Kennedy Stewart on becoming Vancouver’s next mayor. Kennedy and his supporters fought a spirited campaign,” reads a written statement from Sim.

“I apologize that it has taken time to acknowledge that Kennedy Stewart won the mayoral election. Given the close nature of the result, we believed that we owed it to our supporters and the city to ensure we had the correct result. This was not done to take away from Kennedy Stewart or his team’s accomplishment in any way.”

Stewart has become the first independent in three decades to be elected to the mayor’s seat in Vancouver.

A total of 21 people ran to replace incumbent Gregor Robertson.
