Salmon Arm horse breeder acquitted of animal cruelty charges

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – A Salmon Arm woman accused of starving her horses has been acquitted.
Charlene Robinson was charged with two counts of animal cruelty after the SPCA removed 13 of 20 Arabian horses during a cold snap in December of 2013.
She’s always denied she willfully hurt them, but admitted at her Kamloops trial, that some were underweight because she had problems providing them adequate access to water and hay on her 20-acre farm.

BC Supreme Court Justice Len Marchand has found her not guilty on both counts because there’s no proof the animals were deliberately neglected.
He says she exercised poor judgment and while Robinson’s actions may have been ‘careless,’ they were not ‘reckless.’
