VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Forget things like food and treats, how much are you willing to spend on your pet?

According to a new poll out from B.C. Hydro, 75 per cent of British Columbians admit they’ll do things like leave the lights or TV on to keep their furry friends comfortable while they’re home alone.

Maybe it’s an attempt at getting them to avoid chewing that favourite pair of shoes.

Either way, 90 per cent of those polled admit to leaving the heat on in the winter for their pets, and more than half say the same thing about the air conditioner or a fan in the summer.

As for entertainment, just under 40 per cent of you are leaving the TV on, where music, cartoons, nature, news and sports seem to be the the top choices for Fido.

Going one step further, almost one fifth of people actually have recorded a program specifically for their pet to watch.

In the name of saving a few dollars, B.C. Hydro recommends lowering the thermostat by two degrees to reduce heating costs slightly — about five per cent or so.
