Swoop is finally headed stateside

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After a bump in the road, Swoop is starting up flights to the U.S.

WestJet’s discount airline has received its final approval to operate stateside.

The company was supposed to start flying to the U.S. earlier this month, but it was forced to cancel more than 20 flights when, come inaugural flight time, it still didn’t have that final approval.

“We were initially wanting to start services on the 11th of October. We’ve suffered, unfortunately, about a 15-day delay,” said President Steven Greenway.

And that delay, said Greenway, “it’s our fault.”

“We had a number of approvals and some paperwork to get complete. At the end of the day, we just underestimated it.”

Now with the final approval in hand, Swoop’s first flight to the U.S. leaves Edmonton for Arizona on Saturday. The first flight out of B.C. heads to Las Vegas from Abbotsford on Sunday.

“Swoop would again like to apologize to our valued travellers for the inconveniences they have experienced and reassure travellers with upcoming flights that everything is in place,” reads a statement from the company.
