Remembrance Day ceremonies across the Lower Mainland

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – Communities across the region will be marking Remembrance Day on November 11, 2018. There are several parades and ceremonies taking place.

Location: Thunderbird Square (Veterans Way — behind City Hall, next to Clearbrook Library)
Time: 9:30 a.m. (coffee), 10:30 a.m. (parade)
The parade starts at Garden and Simon Streets (You are asked to arrive no later than 10:45 a.m.) and heads to Thunderbird Square.

Burnaby North

Location: Confederation Park Cenotaph (250 Willingdon Avenue)
Time: 10:45 a.m. (parade) and 11 a.m. (ceremony)
The parade starts at the parking lot of the Safeway on Hastings Street near Willingdon Avenue and heads to the cenotaph, where the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

Burnaby South

Location: South Burnaby Cenotaph (Imperial Street and Nelson Avenue in Bonsor Park)
Time: 10:30 (parade) and 11 a.m. (ceremony)
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Fire Hall #3 (Marlborough Ave at Bennett St) and heads to the cenotaph. There ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

Location: All Sappers Memorial Cenotaph (Vedder Road at Keith Wilson Road)
Time: 10:30 a.m.

Location: Cenotaph at Blue Mountain Park (on Veterans Way)
Time: 9:45 a.m. gathering, 10:40 a.m. march
The parade leaves Como Lake Middle School (King Albert Avenue near Porter Street) at 10:40 a.m. and goes along Winslow Avenue to the Cenotaph.

North Delta Ceremony

Location: North Delta Social Heart Plaza (84th Avenue and 115 Street)
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Light refreshments to follow at the North Delta Recreation Centre.

Location: Memorial Park (47 Avenue at Garry Street)
Time: 10:15 a.m. (parade) and 10:45 a.m. (ceremony)
The parade begins at the Legion on Delta Street at Trenant Street and heads to the cenotaph at Memorial Park, where the ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m.

Tsawwassen Remembrance Day Ceremony

Location: Century Square (56 Street at 18 Avenue)
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

Langley Legion

Location: Douglas Park Cenotaph (Park Avenue and Douglas Crescent)
Time: 10:35 a.m. (parade) and 10:50 a.m. (service)
The parade leaves the Timms Community Centre and heads east along Douglas Crescent to the Douglas Park Cenotaph. The public is invited to walk in the parade or watch it arrive at the cenotaph.The ceremony begins at 10:50 a.m.

Fort Langley

Location: Gardens across from the St. Andrews Cemetery (St. Andrews Street at Glover Road)
Time: 10:25 a.m. (procession) and 10:40 a.m. (service)
The procession begins at the west end of the Fort Langley Cemetery, near the intersection of St. Andrews and Nash Streets). It will head toward the cenotaph, passing by the graves of hundreds of veterans buried in the cemetery. Members of the public are invited to walk through the garden and light a candle or plant poppy seeds.

Maple Ridge

Location: Cenotaph in Memorial Peace Park (224 Street at Haney Place)
Time: 10:30 a.m. (parade) followed by ceremony
The parade begins at the Legion on 224 Street near Brown Avenue and heads to the cenotaph at Memorial Peace Park. The official ceremony begins after the parade.

Location: Clarke Theatre (Prentis Avenue near Stave Lake Street)
Time: 10:15 a.m. (parade) 11 a.m. (ceremony)
The parade begins at Old Windebank School on Stave Lake Street and heads to the Clarke Theatre. The service begins at 11 a.m. After the service, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Legion (Logan Avenue near Haig Street)

New Westminster

Location: Royal Westminster Regiment, Armouries, Queens Avenue United Church, City Hall
Time: 9:45 a.m.
Following the ceremonies in the Armouries, there will be a parade to the Cenotaph at the front of City Hall (Royal Avenue near 6th Street), where two minutes of silence will be observed at 11 a.m. There will then be a wreath-laying ceremony and the march past on Royal Avenue.

The ceremony takes place on the water by the beach at Roche Point.

Location: Spirit Square (Harris Road near Ford Road)
Time: 10:30 a.m.
The ceremony includes a procession, speeches, and a two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. in memory of those who have lost their lives.

Wilson Centre Service

Location: The Wilson Centre (Wilson Avenue near Kingsway Avenue)
Time: 9:30 am – 10:30am

Time: 11 a.m.

Port Moody

Location: Kyle Centre (Kyle and St. Andrews Streets) and Port Moody Arts Centre (St. Johns Street near Kyle Street)
Time: 9:30 a.m. (service), 10:30 a.m. (parade) and 11 a.m. (ceremony)
An inter-faith and non-denominational service will be held at the Kyle Centre at 9:30 a.m., followed by a parade to the Port Moody Arts Centre. There, an Act of Remembrance ceremony will be held at 11 a.m.

Time: 10:20 a.m. (march off) and 11 a.m. (ceremony)

Location: Cloverdale Cenotaph at the Surrey Museum (56A Avenue near 176A Street)
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
There are activities for the whole family at the Surrey Museum. A service will take place at the Cloverdale Cenotaph in Veterans Square at 10:25 a.m.

Crescent Beach

Location: Crescent Beach Legion (128 Street near 26 Avenue)
Time: 10:30 a.m.
The service is followed by a laying of wreaths and a fly past.

Location: Whalley Legion (106 Avenue near City Parkway)
Time: 10:25 a.m.
The parade assembles at 10 a.m. and marches to the Cenotaph, starting at 10:25 a.m. Refreshments and snacks will follow the service. The Branch Lounge will be open to the public after the service.

Victory Square

Location: Victory Square Cenotaph (West Hasings and Cambie Streets)
Time: 9:45 a.m. (choir performance), 10 a.m. (parade), 10:30 a.m. (ceremony)
The main parade will march west along Hasings Street, turn right at Richards Street, go east on Cordova, then south on Cambie Street. The veterans section of the parade will march west along Hastings Street and disperse.

The march forms at about 10:30 a.m. on Marine Dr. at 17th Street and begins at 10:45 a.m.

White Rock

Location: White Rock Cenotaph
Time: 10 a.m. (parade) and 10:50 a.m. (service)
The parade begins at 10 a.m., leaving White Rock Elementary School. The service at the cenotaph begins at 10:50 a.m., with a flyover at 11 a.m. Refreshments are offered at the White Rock Legion after the ceremony.
