Private recreational cannabis shops can now buy weed legally in B.C.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Private cannbis retailers can now legally buy products from the provincial government.

The Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) has launched its wholesale website for licensed, private retailers.

Kate Bilney with the LDB says they deliberately waited to launch the site before the first private store got its licence.

“Obviously, you couldn’t purchase cannabis legally before. Now, with the first private retailer receiving their licence this week, we made sure that we were timed appropriately with that.”

The sole private shop that has a licence so far is in Kimberley. There are hundreds more licences in the process. All companies must go through the province if they want to legally sell marijuana.

There is only one government-operated cannabis store in the province, located in Kamloops.
