NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – A man has been arrested after police received reports of a possible explosion linked to a suspected drug lab at a New Westminster apartment building Sunday afternoon.
“There was a report of a possible explosion inside of one of the suites, so when officers arrived along with the fire department, they went into the suite that had some smoke coming out of it,” Sgt. Jeff Scott with NWPD says.

No one was hurt.
Scott says a man was seen coming out of the suite.
“He was not cooperative with officers, not cooperative with direction from the fire department, and we had to get in there to ensure public safety, to ensure no body else was injured inside or no body else was inside. He was subsequently arrested for drug related offences.”
A number of people were forced from their homes, and emergency crews were called to the area of Carnarvon Street at Elliott Street around 1:00 p.m.

Investigators have had the building surrounded by yellow police tape as hazmat teams make their way in and out of the complex.
Right now, police are waiting for a search warrant in order to get into one of the suites, which is believed to be where the suspected explosion originated from.
