People allowed to return home after suspected drug lab explosion in New West

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – People living in a New Westminster apartment building along Carnarvon Street are being allowed back into their homes after they were forced to leave following a possible explosion caused by a suspected drug lab on Sunday.

Police arrested a man when they arrived at the building Sunday afternoon, saying he was uncooperative with officers upon their arrival.

Investigators are looking into possible charges, but say the matter remains under investigation at this time.

The residents were allowed back in after investigators determined there was no longer a risk to public safety.

“All potentially harmful material has been removed from the building and disposed of appropriately,” Staff Sergeant Stuart Jette says in a release. “We remind residents that if they observe drug activity or suspicious behaviour in their building to call the NWPD.”

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call them at 604.525.5411.
