UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Jacob Grandison and Austin Butler scored 21 points each and five players reached double figures as Holy Cross handed Stony Brook its first loss of the season, 84-70, Friday night in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament.

The Crusaders (2-2) made half their 60 shot attempts on 25 assists — Grandison led with 10. Jehyve Floyd scored 10 points with seven steals, Matt Faw scored 13 points and Caleb Green 10.

Holy Cross forced five turnovers in the first nine minutes, 12 for the game, and outscored Stony Brook 34-26 on points in the paint.

Akwasi Yeboah led the Seawolves (2-1) with 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting, but committed eight turnovers. Elijah Olaniyo added 19 points for Stony Brook, which started hot, shooting 54 per cent in the first half, but cooled, making eight baskets after halftime (8 of 30) for 27 per cent.

Green stole the ball from Yeboah early in the second half and fed to Austin for a fast-break layup, and Grandison followed with a 3 and Holy Cross led by double digits.
