NEWS 1130 Worst Commute winner spends 60 hours a week behind the wheel

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – Our final winner in this year’s Vancouver’s Worst Commute contest spends about three hours a day just getting to and from work.

Marlene Howard says it takes her 1.5 hours each way between her home in Mission and work in New Westminster. Her commute takes her over three bridges.

She tells us the most frustrating part of her journey is when she can see the end of the road, but can’t get there because of congestion.

“When it gets down to the Queensborough Bridge, that’s the worst nightmare. Because I’m almost there, and then I get stopped.”

And once Marlene finally arrives at work, she hops behind the wheel of a transit bus and drives for nine hours.

“That’s a total of approximately 60 hours a week behind the wheel,” she says.

Marlene gets $500 for her pain, thanks to our partners at Toyo Tires. NEWS 1130 would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry.
