Unsung Hero: Surrey man helps young track and field athletes achieve their dreams

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to our latest Unsung Hero, Don Allemeerch of Surrey.

He was nominated for the award by Donna Rainford-Cayenne. Take a look at his story:

Don is a retired firefighter and is now a coach for track and field throwing athletes. Don started his own throwing club called the South Surrey Athletics, located in White Rock. Don’s athletes this year won 19 gold medals within the province and on the world stage.

He works diligently with each athlete to reach their dreams. He has built up my daughter’s self-esteem and helped her attain her athletics goals. She won first in most of her competitions this year. He makes it possible financially for athletes who otherwise could not afford to travel and achieve their athletic dreams. I have witnessed him counselling the athletes when they are emotionally troubled.

He is all around an amazing coach, genuine friend to his athletes, and deserves to be recognize for all his efforts throughout year. Should he win the Unsung Hero Award for this year, it would demonstrate the appreciation of his athletes and their parents.

Additionally, he sets the bar for coaches to attain especially by making the success of his athletes about the athletes and not for the coaches.

Alpine Credits is acknowledging Don with $500 to say thanks for his efforts. It’s also donating $1,000 to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
