Man seriously hurt in West End assault

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A man has serious injuries after an early-morning assault in Vancouver’s West End.

Police were called at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday. A man reported that he was assaulted near Davie and Burrard Streets.

“The victim, a 36-year-old Vancouver man, was located minutes later near the intersection and transported to hospital,” VPD Cst. Jason Doucette said.

The man has serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The VPD says the man was assaulted “during an altercation,” but no further details of the incident have been released.

“The victim in this file is known to police, in the sense that he’s familiar in the area — not necessarily to a criminal nature. He’s one of the regular people that are down in that area,” Doucette said.

“It’s not uncommon for this person to be out at 3 a.m., so there’s no reason to believe it’s linked to time of day or to any specific member of the community.”

Investigators are looking for video surveillance footage and other evidence, trying to piece together exactly what happened and who is responsible.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
