Mechanical issues force cancellation of two BC Ferries sailings

TSAWWASSEN (NEWS 1130) – You’re likely going to have to wait a little longer than usual for a ferry to Vancouver Island.

BC Ferries was forced to cancel the 7:00 a.m. Spirit of British Columbia sailing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay because of a mechanical issue.

The 9:00 a.m. return sailing along that route has also been cancelled.

“The ship has a problem with its fuel pump, and our team is working very, very hard to fix the issue,” Tessa Humphries with BC Ferries says. “We have traced the cause and we’re working to get the components that we need.”

It’s unclear if it will be back in service in time for its next scheduled run at 11:00 a.m.

“The Coastal Celebration continues to provide its regular service on the Vancouver to Victoria route, and we certainly apologize to any customers who are inconvenienced as a result of the cancellation this morning, and appreciate their patience.”

Anyone with a reservation on either of those sailings will be accommodated on the next sailing, she adds.

BC Ferries says the Coastal Renaissance will provide additional sailings throughout the morning along that route until repairs can be made.

Passengers are encouraged to check the schedule ahead of time for updates, either through Twitter or on the BC Ferries website.
