Teen pulled into bushes, sexually assaulted in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police are on the hunt for a man who sexually assaulted a teenager in East Vancouver this week.

Vancouver Police say at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the 14-year-old girl got off a bus on Kingsway and walked north on Miller Street, which is near Victoria Drive. They say when she got to nearby Brewers Park, a stranger dragged her into the bushes and sexually assaulted her.

“This is a 14-year-old girl who was doing nothing wrong,” VPD Cst. Jason Doucette said. “She was simply walking in a neighbourhood. It appears a man in his late 20s took advantage of her, grabbed her from behind — by surprise — and pulled her into some bushes and assaulted her.”

The suspect is described as white, in his late 20s, with a medium build, short brown hair, brown eyes and stubble on his face. He was wearing a jacket, blue jean and black boots.

“We are working with witnesses to try to come up with a composite drawing and try to find some video to identify [the suspect],” Doucette said. “We are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, especially now in hindsight knowing what you know, to give us a call.”

Police are asking anyone with dash-cam footage or who may have been driving in the area between 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on that day to give them a call.

“We’re going to look into all circumstances to see what lead up to this, to hold the person accountable, but also to see what we can do, maybe to prevent such things in the future,” Doucette added.

Investigators are specifically looking for footage from anyone who was driving within the boundaries of Kingsway, E. 22nd Ave, Welwyn St. and Victoria Drive.
