Fatal crash closes sections of Sea-to-Sky Highway for hours on Sunday

SEA TO SKY (NEWS 1130) — Some lanes of the Sea-to-Sky Highway have been closed for several hours Sunday after a fatal crash involving three vehicles.

Traffic was opened to single-lane-alternating trafic south of the Chance Creek Bridge as of 8 p.m.

Police say one person was found to be dead at the scene of the crash, and there will be road closures throughout the day as police continue to investigate what happened.

“While getting the highway back open is a top priority for police the over-riding priority is to gather evidence in a manner that is safe and allows for a thorough investigation,” Insp. Dale Carr with the Lower Mainland District RCMP said in a press release. “Our commitment is to get traffic flowing as soon a possible.”

Emergency vehicles are still on the highway, which is expected to open fully Sunday evening around 6 p.m.
