Toronto police say a two-month-old baby who was inside a stolen van has been found safe and sound after the vehicle was abandoned on Sunday evening.

Police responded to a call reporting the theft of a brown Toyota Sienna van around 7:40 p.m. EST at a strip mall, the Italian Gardens Plaza, in the Islington Avenue and Satterly Road area.

An infant boy was inside the van at the time it was taken.

Const. David Hopkinson said an Amber Alert was not issued because the incident was not deemed an abduction, but police did not rule it out.

Police say a local resident found the van abandoned approximately two hours later. The child was uninjured and was assessed by paramedics on scene.

An investigation is ongoing and there’s currently no word on a suspect or suspects at this time.
