Unsung Hero: Teen pulls great-grandmother from burning home

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to our latest Unsung Hero, 13-year-old Deon Johnson of Burnaby.

He was nominated for the award by Victoria Aganova, who shares his inspiring story.

In the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, Nov. 21st, there was a house fire in Burnaby.

Deon woke up to smoke and flames climbing up to the ceiling and walls. In the panic, he managed to quickly call 911. He is only 13 years old, but his bravery was way beyond his years.

Gathering his strength Deon pulled his great-grandmother, who is 86, out of the house as she is paralyzed from the waist down. He then ran in and rescued the family dog.

He aspires to join the team of first responders or policing in his future.

Alpine Credits is acknowledging Deon with $500 & they’re also donating $1,000 to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
