Man accused in killing of elderly woman in Vancouver charged

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A 23-year-old man from Surrey has been charged in connection with the killing of an elderly woman in East Vancouver.

“Second-degree murder charges have now been approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service against 23-year-old Nicholas Dwayne Wallace of Surrey,” Vancouver Police Sgt. Jason Robillard says.

Wallace was arrested last week, two days after Elizabeth Poulin’s body was discovered by a relative.

Police say the 87-year-old’s body was found in her apartment near Kingsway and Kerr Street on Nov. 24.

“Right now it’s before the courts, but what we are saying is, again, they were not known to each other,” Robillard explains.

There’s still no word on a clear motive, or whether Wallace has a criminal history.

Robillard says, however, that the 23-year-old did have some “police interactions prior to this.”

“Since his arrest on the 26th, he’s remained in custody and he is in custody today,” Robillard adds.

The VPD would not provide further comment on Wallace’s background, as the matter is now before the courts.
