Man turns himself in after fleeing scene of hit-and-run in North Van

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — After initially fleeing the scene, a driver has handed themselves into police after a pedestrian was struck in North Vancouver Friday night.

Police say a 24-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a grey pickup at 5th Street and Lonsdale Avenue at about 8 p.m.

Witnesses stayed on the scene, and police initially were treating the incident as a hit-and-run. However, soon after the male driver handed himself into a police detachment and Mounties also located the vehicle involved.

Investigations continue and police haven’t commented on whether charges are likely.
