NANAIMO (NEWS 1130) – The BC NDP has decided on its candidate for what’s expected to be a hotly-contested byelection in Nanaimo: Sheila Malcolmson.
Malcolmson is currently the federal MP for Nanaimo-Ladysmith. She was acclaimed as the candidate for the provincial seat, and kicked off her campaign at the nomination meeting in Nanaimo on Sunday, according to a press release.

Housing affordability, environment and ferry services between Nanaimo and Vancouver are some issues she will prioritize during the election.
“This is the most important by-election in BC history,” she said in a statement. “The people of Nanaimo have a clear choice. Do we want to continue with the progress we’re seeing with a John Horgan government, or do we want to go back to the BC Liberals?”
Former MLA Leonard Krog nominated Malcolmson for the position.
The B.C. Greens announced yesterday they were nominating former teacher Michele Ney, and the BC Liberals are running businessman Tony Harris.
