Unsung Hero: Local man dedicates free time to helping those in addiction recovery

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to George Gidora of Coquitlam, our latest Unsung Hero!

He was nominated for the award by Denis Power. Here is Gidora’s story:

George is a volunteer member, meeting convener, as well as President of LifeRing Canada. LifeRing is a non-profit organization and a peer support group for people in recovery, who are battling addiction.

George has been involved for the last decade in building and growing meetings throughout the lower mainland, BC, and Canada.

George works full time, but dedicates so much of his non-working time to LifeRing to be able to help others find the support, fellowship, and courage that he found, in his own path to success in recovery.

He continues to lead by example and shows people that a successful life in recovery is possible and that support is there and available.

We all know too well how serious of a societal issue we have with addiction. Addiction is not picky; male, female, rich, poor, educated or not, addiction can touch so many of our loved ones. If you or anyone you know is struggling with addiction, I hope they will look into a meeting of LifeRing and I hope they get a chance to meet George. He is very deserving of being recognized for the important work he does in our community.

Alpine Credits is acknowledging George with $500 & they’re also donating $1,000 to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
