2-year-old attacked by cougar in Mission

MISSION (NEWS 1130) – The B.C. Conservation Officer Service confirms a two-year-old has been attacked by a cougar near Mission.

The incident happened at the Cascade Falls trail just after 4 p.m. on Monday.

“It’s a trail into a wooded area, and what we know so far is that an adult was taking some children for a walk,” Conservation Officer Sgt. Todd Hunter says. “One of the young boys was attacked by a cougar when they were heading back to the trail.”

Hunter says the boy suffered some minor injuries including some scratches to the back and to an arm and one punctured wound to the arm.

“We had officers respond to the area to ensure that no one else was, everybody else was OK in the area. No one else was there at the time,” he says. “The park was closed and it’s remaining closed as officers investigate.”

He says so far, officers have not been able to find the cougar but notes the park will remain closed until they can safely re-open the trail.
