Wind statement issued for Lower Mainland

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – The break on the rain and wind will be short-lived across the Lower Mainland, Environment Canada has issued yet another wind statement for the region.

Environment Canada says residents should prepare for damaging winds and heavy rain.

“With this system, there is the potential for both damaging winds and heavy rainfall but determining which regions will be most impacted depends on the precise details of the track and timing,” says Environment Canada.

“It is tapping in into that soft tropical moisture stream from much lower latitudes,” Meteorologist Russ Lacate says “That storm gathers up along the jet streams and rides right along towards the south coast making its impact overnight and more so during the day Thursday.”

WATCH: Sunny breaks on Wednesday before another storm hits the region

This is on top of its winter storm warning for the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt, which could see another five to 10 centimetres of snow by Wednesday afternoon, on top of the 35 that fell over the last day.

And just in case that wasn’t enough, there’s also a rainfall warning out for the Fraser Valley that’s expected to die down before noon.
