VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Perhaps you saw fewer kettles out for the Salvation Army’s annual campaign.
Mike Leland with the charity says it’s been tougher than usual to recruit volunteers in Metro Vancouver and that could affect how much money was raised over the holiday period.
“There are so many more non-profits out there. The needs are continuously growing. So, filling those spots has become a challenge. But I’d say we did alright this year. We thank all those people who stepped up and volunteered for our program.”
Still, Leland expects the group will come close to reaching its fundraising target. He is more optimistic for the province as a whole, expecting the charity will hit its $4-million target.
The money is still being collected and counted. The Salvation Army expects to get its final numbers for the Kettle Campaign later in the month.
