Ottawa man charged with child pornography offences after mission to Nepal orphanage

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) —  An Ottawa man has been charged with child pornography offences. He was stopped by Canada Border Services Agency officers when returning to Canada in mid-December after a voluntary mission to an orphanage in Nepal.

At the time, officers found evidence of suspected child pornography and several communications where he engaged in conversations requesting to have sexual relations with children under the age of 16.

The Ottawa Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) confirmed the images met the Criminal Code definition of child pornography. It resulted in the identification of 5 Nepalese male victims under the age of 16.

62-year-old Paul McCarthy was arrested at Pearson International Airport on Friday and escorted off a plane headed for Panama City.

A search warrant was executed at his residence in Ottawa where additional images of child pornography were seized.

McCarthy, 62, has been charged with two counts of possession, one count of luring a child under the age of 18 and one for importing child pornography.

He is scheduled to appear in court Saturday.

ICE investigators are worried that there could be more victims.
