“It’s restricted for a reason,” says Sgt. Rob Dixon. “Anyone that’s found in there will be escorted off and provided with a ticket.”

Dixon says the man claims he was down there to clean up some of the debris but notes that’s no excuse for being down there.

“There’s all sorts of debris, it’s unstable, and it’s just not somewhere that people need to be,” Dixon explains.

Last month’s powerful storm tore the pier in two and left a man stranded who had to be rescued by helicopter.

The damage may be so severe the entire structure might need to be replaced, which is why RCMP are warning people to stay away until it has been repaired.
