Egg photo cracks Instagram world record, beating Kylie Jenner for most likes

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A stock photo of an egg has cracked a world record for the highest number of likes on Instagram.

Anonymous account “world_record_egg” beat out previous record-holder Kylie Jenner, whose photo announcing the birth of her daughter in February 2018 pulled in more than 18 million likes. A social media campaign pushed the post toward the goal using hashtags like #EggGang and #LikeTheEgg. The image of the brown egg was posted on Jan. 4, 2018 and is the only post by that user.

The number of likes grew quickly on Sunday, with around 13.7 million around noon, ballooning up to 15.3 million by 2:30, and surpassing Jenner’s record 18.1 million just before 5 p.m.

“Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this” reads the post.

Kylie Jenner set a record on the social media platform posting a photo of her newborn daughter in February 2018. Justin Bieber’s engagement announcement now ranks third, with more than 13.3 million likes.
