Transit police investigate online videos of man appearing to masturbate in public

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Transit police say they are investigating after a post on a social media site claimed a man had been filming himself masturbating in public places across Metro Vancouver and posting the videos online.

Officers say they became aware of the videos after their communication team flagged a post on social media website Reddit, where a user claimed he had found the footage on a pornographic site.

“What it was was a man that had been filming himself masturbating in public places throughout Metro Vancouver and that included the transit system,” said Sgt. Clint Hampton with Transit Police. “So that was sent over to our detectives and our general investigation unit.”

He said transit police are working together with cyber-crime units as well as other police jurisdictions.

“Really what they are looking into right now is firstly, do we have an offence? Did an offence occur? And secondly, was it in the Metro Vancouver area?” Hampton added. “Anything like this, there’s a lot of videos. It’s going to take some time to review and really determine what they have and what they’re dealing with.”

Hampton said they have not received any reports or complaints about the alleged incidents, but added that anyone with information should contact them.
