Vancouver Canucks talk mental health

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The sixth annual Hockey Talks night is happening tonight when the Canucks take on the Oilers at Rogers Arena.

The team, along with almost a dozen other teams, dedicate a special night to bring awareness and encourage people to talk about mental health.

The Canucks posted a short video featuring players and coaches to their Twitter feed.

The Canucks have been hosting Hockey Talks since 2013. They started the event in honour of forward Rick Rypien, who died in 2011. Wes Rypien will be at tonight’s event as part of the ceremonial puck drop.

This year, all of the NHL’s Canadian teams and five American teams will be hosting mental awareness events. Hockey Talks aims to alleviate the misconceptions and stigma associated with mental illness.
